Interesting tip for iPhone Internet tethering

Just so set the scene :

- I have a iPhone 4 (Vodafone UK)

- And I have a Boingo mobile phone subscription on it (around £4/month)

I am currently sitting outside Starbucks - on my MacBook - connected to the Internet using tethering from the MacBook to the iPhone.

It looks remarkably like I can use the Boingo subscription on my iPhone to connect my MacBook to the Internet through the iPhones wireless (ie Starbucks) wifi netowrk.

And the answer is : None

The only problem with selective ads are when they are based on useless algorithms that give results as the ones above, which frankly has nothing to do with what I was looking for - so a selective waste of advertisement spend.

Measuring download speed of web pages is a big thing for me - and there are extremely few tools that can be used to reliably gather both the download time of individual pages once and twice (to simulate the effect of internal browser caches - and intermediate proxies) - and do this at regular intervals to find the effect of varying server load throughout the day.

Status of our home monitoring

Our home monitoring system is coming along with the addition of a set of jeenodes (see them as wireless and battery driven Arduinos)

The slave nodes look like this :

the green box houses the 3 AA batteries making this a truly wireless solution, enabling me to move this around to anywhere in the house.

Chumby as a monitoring display
